dA. Why?

There was a time when I was completely addicted to dA: I would spend hours here, just browsing around, just doing the "watch and learn"

Then, I bought myself a couple of books in which all the information I used to read on dA was compilled, and so the amount of time spent here decreased dramatically.

After this period, I started to feel fed up with dA. I could no longer stand the "thank you" comments I was supposed to leave in every deviant that had faved something, and therefore quit answering messages and leaving gratitude comments: I only watched other deviations by my favourite artists.

And when this era finally ended, I entered the stage I'm living now: I see dA as a website where you can learn by watching other people's works, by reading lots of good quality "essays" that are published here and by learning new techniques and concepts.

But above all, the major reason why I never left dA even during my period of rebellion is the fact that dA and all the artists in it motivate me. They make me want to improve, to keep shooting to at least try to be as good as some of the artists in here.

And I think that is great.

However, lots of people belong to dA because of other reasons, and I wonder what those are.
So why do YOU like dA? What makes you feel "attached" to it? What makes it different from other communities?

(short) News

Short news this week!
My computer is now being fixed - for 181,50€ and I should have it back soon.
Also, my grandparents have left to China a few hours ago and if I'm lucky they'll be bringing the D80 I asked them... but I'm not sure if I did it right.
The thing is my parents are going to Canada at the same time. Do you think it would be smarter to buy it there instead?
And last but not the least, I've found a job for summer holidays - before going to summer course in Oxford - which will allow me to raise some funds for this bleeding expensive hobby!

Anyways, hope you're all doing ok.
Cheers
K

Song

Great song by De-phazz.
I wanted to feature the best (Maybe San Jose) but I was unable to find the video.
This one's good too, though.

Something special

News

Hey there everyone, and sorry for my absense here in dA. I've been really busy with school and besides had a little problem. - those that you always think always happen to the others...

Last week there was a problem with electricity at my house, so the electricians had to come and fix it. However, while they're changing the cables and switching everything on and off, they managed to break something up.
Result: every single equipment that was plugged to the electricity and that was on kicked the bucket.

And that includes my iMac along with all my photos in it. Yes, ALL!
I remember how I used to think "How do people spend money on hard drives anyway? It's really not that likely that you'll break your PC..."
Fortunately, though, my father talked me into buying one of those, and so I have some of my photos safely in the external disk.

Sadly, the most recent ones weren't included in the last backup I did, so they are long gone.

What can I say? Just life's shit.... but it wouldn't be life without it, would it now?

Thank you all

I'd like to thank you all for the support that's been given to me, namely by ~cameraguyy that has been a great friend.
Thank you for all the comments and faves on "Sintra", they are much appreciated!

And once again, sorry for my absense, but now that I don't have computer it's kind of hard to come here.... I'll manage! Mac's already at the repair shop

Cheers

K
