Description

Again a picture from Africa I really wanted to submit.

I don't know if you've ever been to Africa, but if you do, I think you'll understand me when I say that Africa has this special "thing", this feeling in the air that you can't find anywhere else. In Africa I felt vibrant, happy and relaxed. It seems as if the air is cleaner there, as if it tastes better.
And the sunsets/rises are unbelievable as well, because they are so dramatic and warm.
Unfortunately, though, I couldn't shoot any of them, because during sunrise and sunset I was in the jeep, wandering around looking for animals, so it was hard to shoot while on the move and without a tripod.
But in the last day, however, I decided to stay at the lodge so that I could take a few pictures of the sunset. So I climbed to the top of the mountain to find this exact picture. As usual in life, the one day that I came to shoot the sunset was the day when it was worst. Nontheless, it was still a great shoot-out, and a very relaxing one as well, which is why I decided to submit it.

During the process of climbing, I dropped my shitty chinese tripod I had brought (since my Manfrotto is so heavy and big) and had to shoot without it.
Therefore, to get this picture, I placed my camera on top of my backpack and spot metered the floor. Since the backpack wasn't obviously sturdy, I chose the biggest aperture I could in order to try to avoid camera shake.
I then placed my Lee 0.9 NDG and my cokin 0.6 NDG to keep them within the dynamic range of the camera, and aligned them with the horizon.
As I didn't have the shutter release cord, I used the self timer with 10s to allow the camera to keep steady.
And then shot.

I then processed it in Apple Aperture, including Contrast, White Balance, Sharpeness and Levels.
The frame and final sharpenning was done in PS Elements 4.
